The Massif Central week tour
The tours in the Valley of the Allier are week long, which gives you enough time to explore the many lanes and tracks of the area and relax.
The lanes are challenging, but not damaging, although bramble scratches are inevitable as many of the tracks run through the woods, and are not driven very often. (We do have a supply of plastic film which can be applied to your 4x4 which helps minimise these. The cost is about euros €40,00 per car.) We also carry a set of waffles which can be helpful when negotiating rocky sections for vehicles with long rear overhangs.
The week tour normally starts on Sunday, and consists of six nights accommodation with breakfast in the Hostellerie Saint-Vernay, 6 evening meals, and 4 days escorted Greenlaning, with lunches. Depending on which lanes we take, we will either take a picnic lunch with us, or have lunch at the hotel.
Please note that there is no camping option or other variation on this tour.
You would travel to France at your leisure (the ferry ticket is a standard return) check into the Hostellerie on the Sunday, and then in the evening, meet for Dinner ( a 4 course meal with local specialty dishes) where we would get to know each other and discuss the week's laning.
On the Monday morning we would meet for breakfast, and, escorted by one or more of the Land Rovers, we would set off for a days Greenlaning. Normally the route would be up to 100 kilomètres, and take about 6 to 8 hours, depending on the degree of difficulty of the route and the weather, and with plenty of stops for photos and looking at points of interest.
On Monday evening, time to relax over dinner.
Tuesday, we would set off again on a different set of lanes, returning for Dinner in the evening.
Normally on Wednesday you have the day free to relax, or to look round the beautiful area, but sometimes if there are local events whic people wish to see, this can be changed.
Thursday and Friday will be spent exploring more of the many lanes in this beautiful area of France.
On Saturday morning you return home.
