Mudplug operates guided short break tours throughout the whole year around the Green Lanes of Northern France for you in your own 4x4 vehicle. We are based about 100 miles (160 kilometres) from Calais, and are easily accessible from the Channel Ports, and from Belgium, Holland and Germany.
We moved to Northern France from England some 14 years ago. When we were settled in, using our old Range Rover, we started to explore some of the thousands of kilometres of Green Lanes that surround us here in Northern France, near to the battlefields of the Somme. Exploring the lanes was a very interesting experience, seeing the seasons come and go; dust in the Summer and mud in the Winter; and soon we became more adventurous and wanted to explore further afield and so we joined a local 4x4 club. The old Range Rover was by now needing a major overhaul, and was taken off the road, and we bought a Suzuki Samurai, and in this vehicle we thoroughly enjoyed the club's "road book" excursions, including a memorable 2 day tour on one of the wettest Easter Weekends in memory driving 80 kilometres across the tracks to the town of Guise where we spent the night, returning the next day by a different route. We also visited off road centres to practice driving techniques, as driving in Winter mud was very different to the rocks and sand of North Africa and Saudi Arabia where I had gained most my off road driving experience.
On our regular trips to the UK to visit family and friends we told them of our four wheel driving experiences here in France, and the reaction was universal. After the usual "Can you do that over there?" came "We would love to try that, but we wouldn't know where to go". Thus Mudplug was born. In 2001 we bought a Land Rover 110 V8 to act as guide vehicle, and formed the company to operate short break escorted tours on the Green lanes of Northern France, so that you too can enjoy these beautiful lanes.
